Mexico-Oklahoma Partnership
 Strong since 2009!

Bishop Garza and Bishop Nunn

Recently, Bishop Jimmy Nunn and a small delegation from the oklahoma Annual conference
traveled to Monterrey, Mexico to meet with the bishop the Eastern Conference of the Mexican
Methodist Church, Antonio Garza, and his leadership team.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen our covenant partnership in mission. Our relationship
with this conference goes back to the first covenant signed between then-bishops Robert E.
Hayes, Jr. and Raúl Garcia some ten years ago. Of course, our shared work goes back even
further, especially centered around Manos Juntas Mexico in Rio Bravo, MX.
The Oklahoma team comprised Bp. Nunn, Rev. jeremy Basset (Office of mission), Rev. Danny
Wayman (Senior Pastor, Moore First), and Kevin Andrews (OU Wesley, and our partnership
coordinator for Mexico). We met with Bp. Garza, Rev. Raúl Garcia (now the president of Juan
Wesley Seminary in Monterrey), and Willie Berman, the VIM Director for the conference and the
executive head of Manos Juntas).
Together we revisited the Covenant document, bringing it up to date, and discussed mutual
priorities in mission and ministry. We also visited the Seminary, where Bp. Nunn preached at the
chapel service.
It is exciting to see how our partnership has expanded from our initial connection through Manos
Juntas only, to include the full breadth of the work in this conference. There are a number of
meaningful places for churches in our conference to connect with the work in the Eastern
Conference, but also for receiving folk from their conference here in Oklahoma as we grow an
even more effective ministry among Hispanics in our state.
Please contact Kevin Andrews if you want to connect with this partnership, want more
information, or want to be kept informed as things develop. he can be reached at….

OK Volunteers in Mission has been instrumental in keeping Oklahomans highly and effectively involved in this partnership since 2009.  Bishop Nunn, Jeremy Basset, Kevin Andrews and Danny Waymnan all met with Bishop Garza and his team to  demonstrate our continued commitment.

The Mexico-Oklahoma Partnership Committee is tasked with examining the nature of our support within this covenant.  You are invited to be a part of this exciting ministry.  This committee can help you find a way:

  • Ongoing: All kinds of teams and or individuals are needed for education, mentor, medical and construction.
  • Be a part of this committee and bring your ideas to the table as to how we move forward with our renewed covenant with the Mexico Eastern Conference.

Kevin Andrews Mexico Conference Coordinator

Kevin lives in Norman with his amazing wife, Madison and his beautiful daughter, Penelope. He is the Associate Director at the Wesley Foundation on The University of Oklahoma’s campus. He studied psychology at the University of Central Oklahoma, and graduated in May 2019 from Mid America Christian University with his Masters of Science in Counseling. He also enjoys camping, the outdoors, sports and anything involving food. One of his biggest passions is missions, and he’s excited about getting others to participate in missions, too. He first went to Mexico as a high schooler visiting Monterrey twice and then began taking college students to Rio Bravo in 2014. What drove Kevin’s passion for Mexico was the relationships built with those from there. As he got to know more and more people at Manos Juntas, and those relationships became stronger and stronger, he felt an authentic connection with the people and the culture. Through these visits, Kevin has seen the incredible things that God is doing through the people of Mexico and believes that through a mutual relationship, God will do even more incredible things through the Methodist Church of Mexico and the Oklahoma United Methodist Church Conference.
