Woodworth Estates Grant Awarded

The Woodworth Estates committee of the Oklahoma Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church has awarded a grant for a VIM (Volunteers in Mission) project on behalf of mission teams from Claremore First United Methodist Church.

The grant monies, totaling $14,400, will be used to reroof the Childcare House at McCurdy Ministries Community Center in Española, NM with a standing seam metal pitched roof.

This small house was renovated in 2019 to house childcare for families involved in adult education programs and other adult ministries that are housed in the Cole Adult Ministries Center (located adjacent to this facility). However, the old flat roof on the Childcare House has failed and continues to cause damage to the interior.

The construction work will involve removing the old roof and replacing any rotten underlayment plus the installation of new trusses, new insulation, and new metal roofing material. The roofing project will be started as soon as possible. Any unfinished items will be finalized in the fall when two VIM Teams from Claremore First United Methodist Church return to McCurdy for a week of mission in September and October. The Claremore teams will ensure any additional needed exterior or interior repairs (i.e., repainting ceilings or walls, painting the soffits, etc.) are completed.

Linda Polson, VIM team leader from First United Methodist Church of Claremore, has been recruiting and leading teams to McCurdy Ministries Community Center in Española each fall since 2015. In 2019, a second team from the church was led by Frankie Long.

For additional information about the serving on one of the 2020 mission teams scheduled for this fall, contact Linda Polson at 918-342-3700 or via email at
